| PROPER CARE FOR YOUR PUPPY 1. FIRST FEW DAYS. Your new puppy needs plenty of rest for at least the first three days you take him/her home. DO NOT play with you puppy too much since he/she needs at least 15-18 hours of sleep. Your new pup may cry and bark at night since he/she is in a new atmosphere and used to sleeping with a brother or sister. When this happens, do not pick up your pup. Instead, tap your pup’s nose and firmly say,”NO” or just ignore your pup’ s crying. After a few days, your pup will know that it is his/her home and will stop crying. 2. FOOD. Your new puppy needs food two times a day. Once in the morning and once at night. If you feed your pup too much, he/she will have loose stools. Feeding too little will give your pup constipation. Your pup may have loose stools for the first day or two because of change of atmosphere, but if it persists, please contact us immediately. 3. HYPOGLYCEMIA. Hypoglycemia occurs to small teacups and toy breeds from about 8weeks-16weeks. This occurs usually due to stress or too much activity. Your pup’s symptoms will be Listlessness, Depression, and Muscular Weakness. Immediately give your pup honey water, place him/her in a warm place and contact us immediately for further assistance. Honey water or Nutrical is also good to give your pup if he/she is scared or in shock. 4. SHOTS AND DEWORMING. Your pup will need 5 shots in total. Three of the shots are mandatory (Booster Shots) and the fourth one is optional (Bordatella: for cold/flu). The last shot is the Rabies Shot and is given after your pup is four months old. De-worming should be given on a monthly basis depending on the brand of the de-wormer. 5. HOUSE BREAKING. All of our puppies are house broken and trained to go on newspaper or pads. The important thing is for you to maintain it. The best way for house breaking is to use a play pen. You will need to put a bed on one side of the play pen and either newspaper, puppy pad, or puppy tray on the other side of the pen. It is good to let your pup know that this is his/her area (room). When you are not home, your pup should always be in the pen until he/she is about a year old and full house broken. When you are home, you should leave the potty area close to where the pup is playing since he/she is too young to run all the way to his room. When you see your pup going on the right place, always praise your pup and reward him/her with a snack or Nutrical. Do not scold your pup for the mistake he/she made that you did not see. Your pup will not know why he/she is being scolded. Clean up immediately with an odor remover so you pup will not make the same mistake on the same spot. 6. BATHING AND GROOMING. It is recommended by veterinarians to wash your dog/puppy every 10 days. Washing them too often will result in dry skin, irritation, swelling, losing of hair, and other problems. Do not use human shampoo and only dog/puppy shampoo since it is too strong for their sensitive skin. Make sure you use cotton balls in your pup’s ears so water will not go in. Grooming is usually recommended at least once every 3-4 weeks. Your pup will need to get his/her ears cleaned, nails cut, and parts of the body trimmed by a Groomer. |
